Replacing the power window regulator and motor on a 2001 Buick LeSabre is not a difficult job, which is great news for a DYI home mechanic. The window regulator is a single-post, cable-operated unit, and is purchased with the motor as a unit. The single-post has a wheel on both ends, and the cable simply raises or lowers the window lift channel by reversing the motor.
Instructions
- 1
Pry the side-view mirror cover off, using a common screwdriver. Disconnect the speaker wire. Pry out the cover surrounding the inside door handle, using a screwdriver. Disconnect the door-lock switch.
2Remove the bolt located behind the inside door handle, using a socket. Pry out the window switch located in the armrest from the rear of the switch, by lifting it up and pulling it back. Disconnect the switch.
3Pry the lower marker light out of the door and disconnect it. Remove the bolt located behind the light, using a socket. Insert the common screwdriver between the door panel and door and pry out all the trim fasteners on both sides and bottom of the door panel. Lift the panel enough to release it from the top sill, and remove the panel.
4Peel the moisture shield back carefully to expose the window regulator. Disconnect the electrical plug to the window motor. Tape the window up so that it stays in place as the regulator is removed. Remove the bolt from the window support bracket on the vertical post, using a socket.
5Remove the bolts from the top and bottom of the vertical post, as well as the bolts securing the motor to the door, using a socket. Remove the regulator from the door.
6Install the new regulator and motor by aligning the holes and installing the bolts. Remove the tape on the window and lower it into the support bracket on the vertical post. Install the bolt in the support bracket. Plug the electrical plug into the window motor.
7Replace the moisture shield. Hook the door panel on the top sill of the door and lower the door panel. Align the trim fasteners with the holes in the door and push them in. Install the bolts behind the marker light, the door handle and the window switch.
8Plug in the marker light and push it into the panel. Install the plastic cover surrounding the door handle. Install the side-view mirror cover after connecting the speaker. Align the cover fasteners with the holes in the door and push it on. Plug in the window switch and install the switch in the door panel.
