The Cloyes Double Roller is an aftermarket timing belt set. These heavy-duty double-roller timing chain sets feature 0.2-inch-diameter rollers, cast iron cam sprockets, and heat-treated steel crank sprockets with triple keyways. The LT1 is a stock small-block engine manufactured by General Motors. It was used in several vehicles from 1992 to 1996, including the Pontiac Firebird, the Chevy Camaro and the Chevy Caprice. Installing this timing chain system will take several hours.

Instructions

    1

Pop the hood and remove the negative battery cable with the adjustable wrench.

    2

Jack the front end of the vehicle up and then support the front end with jack stands.

    3

Place a drip pan under the oil pan and remove the oil pan drain plug with the socket set. Let the oil flow into the drip pan and then replace the oil pan drain plug.

    4

Open the petcock valve at the bottom of the radiator with a pair of pliers and let the coolant flow into the other drip pan.

    5

Remove the air intake duct assembly with a Phillips screwdriver.

    6

Remove the radiator fan shroud with a nut driver. Remove the radiator hoses with the screwdriver.

    7

Remove the bolts holding the timing case cover with the socket set. Pry the cover off, if need be, with a screwdriver.

    8

Remove the bolts holding the old timing chain pulleys in place and remove the pulleys along with the old timing chain. Install the Cloyes double roller pulleys and timing chain. Tighten the retaining bolts tightly.

    9

Replace the timing case cover. Insert and hand-thread the retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts with the socket set.

    10

Replace the radiator hoses and the fan shroud using a screwdriver and nut driver, respectively.

    11

Replace the air intake duct assembly with a Phillips screwdriver.

    12

Open the radiator cap by pushing it down and twisting it to the left. Fill the radiator with clean coolant. Replace the radiator cap.

    13

Open the oil fill cap and fill the engine with oil. Pour four quarts to start and then check the dipstick with a clean rag. Continue to fill until the oil level is even or above the level indicator on the dipstick.

    14

Jack the vehicle up enough to pull the jack stands out and then lower the car to the ground by turning the jack handle to the left.

    15

Replace the vehicle's negative battery cable with the adjustable wrench.
