Dealing with a damaged or defective factory CD player in your 2002 Kia Sportage can make a long commute seem even longer. The factory CD player features an industry-standard DIN-size form factor, with an optional factory CD changer interface. Replacing the radio with an original equipment manufacturer's unit does not require any specialized tools, technical knowledge or major interior component removal procedures to complete.
Instructions
- 1
Open the vehicle's hood and locate the battery.
2Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery, using an appropriate-size socket or wrench.
3Examine the center dash area and locate the square bezel surrounding the CD player.
4Pry around the perimeter of the player's bezel, using a non-marring pry tool or butter knife. Be careful not to damage the dash components.
5Grasp the bezel and remove it from the center dash area.
6Remove the four screws that secure the CD unit to the mounting area, using an appropriate-size Phillips head screwdriver.
7Slide the original player from the mounting area and disconnect the main wiring harness and antenna connector. Disconnect the CD changer bus cable, if applicable.
8Connect the vehicle's main radio wiring harness to the new OEM CD player, followed by the antenna connector and CD changer bus cable. Fit the new unit into the mounting area and secure it using the original screws.
9Fit the bezel over the CD player. Make sure the clips for the bezel line up with the corresponding clip holders on the center dash area. Press the bezel into place, using even pressure on all four corners.
10Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery to finish the job.
