The roll bar of your YJ Jeep Wrangler vehicle is very important for stability while driving. It helps stabilize the vehicle on bumpy roads, but also causes a slight loss of control. For this reason, many people choose to remove the roll bars from their YJs. The roll bar is held on by Torx bolts you must remove using a drill. It is best to do this on a hot day, as the heat will make it easier to remove the bolts.

Instructions

    1

Place the jack underneath your YJ, making sure it is not placed directly underneath the frame of the body. The jack must be placed on the metal portion underneath the vehicle.

    2

Jack up the YJ, and secure jack stands at the front of the vehicle to stabilize it. Although removing the tires may give you more room to work with, it is not necessary.

    3

Attach the T30 drill bit to your drill.

    4

Use the drill to remove the Torx bolts from the roll bar. If the bolts won't budge, you may need to apply heat to them using a blowtorch or other flame device. As the roll bar is located underneath the vehicle, the bolts are prone to rusting and other debris causing them to be very difficult to remove. Once all of the bolts have been removed, you can take off the roll bar.
