The 2005 GMC Envoy is General Motors upscale mid-sized SUV. Envoy owners enjoy plush leather seats, steering wheel controls and powered seats. The ability to adjust the seat positioning to suit the driver's physical size comes in handy if multiple drivers use the Envoy. The seat has two different seat switches: one to move the seat forward or backward, and the other to adjust the angle of the seat-back and angle and height of the seat-bottom. If the seat fails to respond to the switch commands, chances are the switch has failed and needs replacement.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood. Unhook the Envoy's negative battery cable from the battery with a battery wrench.

    2

Open the door to gain access to the side of the seat with the faulty switch. Slide a trim tool behind the switch panel on both sides, so that you have a trim tool in each hand.

    3

Pry the panel off the seat with the trim tools. Turn the switch panel on its side, so that you can access the back of the switches.

    4

Unplug the faulty switch from the wiring harness. Remove the switch from the panel by prying the retaining tabs off the switch, using a trim tool. Push on the front of the switch to force it out of the panel.

    5

Slide the new switch into the panel from the back until the retaining tabs lock into place. Plug the wiring connector into the new switch. Hold the panel back in place and push on it to lock it onto the side of the seat.

    6

Reconnect the Envoy's negative battery cable. Close the hood.
