The terms sunroof and moon roof, while often used interchangeably, actually have slightly different meanings. A sunroof is moving panel electric or manual on the roof of a vehicle that allows light, air or both into the vehicle. A moon roof, on the other hand, is an electric-powered glass panel that opens by sliding between the vehicles headliner and roof. So technically, a moon roof is actually a type of sunroof. The Cavaliers moon roof uses a small switch mounted on the headliner to open and close it. From the factory, Chevy painted open and close on the switch, but over time, the painted words may become illegible.
Instructions
Opening
- 1
Turn the ignition to the Acc or Run position, if it is not already turned on. Find the moon roof switch mounted to the headliner, just to the rear of the rearview mirror.
2Pull the sunshade, the cloth-covered panel blocking the moon roof, by its handle rearward to expose the moon roof, if needed.
3Open the moon roofs vent feature by pressing and releasing the rear part of the moon roof switch. Observe as the rear of the moon roof angles upward.
4Press and release the rear part of the moon roof switch to activate the moon roofs opening feature. Observe as the vent closes and the moon roof starts sliding rearward. To stop the moon roof at a certain point in its rearward movement, press and release the front part of the moon roof switch.
Closing
- 5
Press and hold the front part of the moon roof switch to start the moon roofs closing feature.
6Continue holding the switch until the moon roof stops moving, then release the switch.
7Grab the sunshades handle and pull it forward to close it, if needed. You can leave the sunshade open, if you like.
