Many motorcycle manufacturers are switching from halogen headlights to HID headlights. The reason for this is HID headlights are much brighter and have a longer life than halogen bulbs. Although the exact procedure for installing an HID H4 bulb on your motorcycle differs depending on the make and model of your bike, the basic idea is the same: disconnect the battery, remove the headlight cover and replace the bulb. Note that you cannot simply replace a halogen bulb with an HID bulb. Your motorcycle must be compatible with H4 bulbs if you wish to install one.

Instructions

    1

Remove the seat to gain access to the battery. The seat is usually held on by a few clips or screws. Remove them and lift up the seat. Disconnect the battery with a socket wrench. If the battery of your motorcycle is not contained underneath the seat, consult your owner's manual for its location and for how to disconnect it.

    2

Remove the panels from around the headlight if equipped. Usually, these are held on by screws.

    3

Remove the headlight cover from the headlight assembly. Again, these are usually held in place by screws.

    4

Pull the old bulb out and use a clean rag to install the new H4 bulb.

    5

Reattach the headlight cover, the panels and reconnect the battery. Reattach the seat.
