Ford created the F-150 in 1975, to fill the gap between the F-100 and the heavy-duty F-250. By 1985, the F-150 had gained enough popularity to outright replace the F-100. The 1994 F-150 had three engine options available: a 4.9-liter six-cylinder, a 5.0-liter V-8 and a 5.8-liter V-8. All three engines made use of an electronic ignition system and programmed fuel injection. A single coil pack that converted 12 volts into the high voltage needed for the ignition spark was part of the electronic ignition system. A short coil wire transferred this high-voltage current from the coil to the distributor.
Instructions
- 1
Locate the ignition coil pack bolted to the rear of the valve cover on the driver's side of the engine.
2Grab the thick rubber boot on the wire connecting to the ignition coil pack and pull it away from the coil pack with a slight twisting motion.
3Trace the coil wire towards the engine until you locate where it connects to the electronic distributor cap. Grab the thick rubber boot of the coil wire and pull it from the ignition coil, using a slight wiggling motion.
4Press the new coil wire onto the electronic distributor cap until it clicks into place. Route the wire back towards the ignition coil in the same fashion as the old wire. Press the wire onto the coil pack until it clicks into place on the coil pack.
