If a material is porous it has small holes so a material or air can pass through it. If a vehicle has a porous leak located somewhere in the engine, coolant, radiator fluid or other materials may leak out. There is a way to stop these porous leaks. The nature of the porous leak could vary the method to remedy it. Having some knowledge of vehicle mechanics is helpful for this task.
Instructions
Repair Porous Radiator Leaks
- 1
Search for coolant leaks on the ground beneath the vehicle.
2Examine the radiator and hose for signs of damage or holes.
3Pour the stop-leak additive into the radiator so it can plug the leaks.
Repair Porous Tire Leaks
- 4
Find the origin of the leak. Dunk the entire tire in water to locate the leak. The location of the air bubbles under the water is the source of the leak. The tire must be inflated or the test will not work.
5Make a mark with chalk around the tire damage.
6Pull the valve stem out with a valve stem puller to remove the air from the tire.
7Fix the hole with a tire patch kit. You can also pull the tire from the housing and break down the beads with a tire iron depending on where the leak is located. If the hole is rather large, take the tire to a professional. If the tire bead is corroded, lightly scrub with a wire brush to remove the corrosion.
8Close off the bead with a bead sealer by using a brush applicator.
9Put the tire back on the car and test for leaks.
