The turn signal switch in a 1991 Honda Accord serves a dual purpose as a combination switch: It combines both the turn signals and headlights into one switch. Over time, the repeated use of the switch can cause it to break or not function properly. When this switch fails, it may no longer be possible to use the turn signals, headlights or both elements, which are safety features and require proper function. Replacing the combination switch is a repair that can be completed with a few simple hand tools.
Instructions
Turn Signal Switch Removal
- 1
Disconnect the negative battery cable, using the 10 mm wrench. Set the negative battery cable aside, out of the way.
2Note the location of the dashboard and knee bolster screws below the steering column. Remove the screws that secure the lower dashboard cover and knee bolster. Remove the covers.
3Remove the upper and lower steering column covers and set them aside.
4Position the steering wheel with the large opening at the top facing to the left, toward the turn signal switch to allow access to the two Phillips screws that secure the switch. Remove the screws at the front of the switch, facing the steering wheel.
5Slide the switch outward towards the driver's door. Disconnect the electrical connector.
