The 1996 Chevrolet Silverado is equipped with four turn signals: two in the front and two in the back. If the turn signals of your 1996 Silverado are not functioning properly, you should repair them as soon as possible in order to prevent any accidents or unwanted citations. Thankfully, the three most common issues with turn signals are fairly simple to resolve: either the bulb needs to be replaced, the fuse needs to be replaced or the turn signal's electrical connector is loose.

Instructions

Front Turn Signals

    1

Put on the clean gloves. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws from the front of the turn signal assembly. Slide the assembly out towards you.

    2

Pull gently on the electrical connector at the rear of the turn signal assembly. If it's loose, securely plug it into the assembly. If the issue persists, the problem may be with the bulb.

    3

Pull the bulb socket out of the turn signal assembly and rotate the bulb to the left to remove it from its socket. Install a replacement 2357NA-type bulb and reassemble the assembly. If the issue persists, the problem may be with the fuse.

    4

Lift up the hood and remove the fuse cover from the fuse panel. Remove the fuse in slot 16 and replace it with a 15A fuse. Reattach the cover and close the hood.

Rear Turn Signals

    5

Put on the clean gloves. Lower the tailgate of your Silverado.

    6

Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry out the two black plugs behind the tail light assembly. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws revealed by removing the plugs.

    7

Tug gently on the electrical connector of the assembly. If it is loose, plug it back into the assembly. If the problem persists, the issue may be with the bulb.

    8

Disconnect the tail light assembly's electrical connector and remove the assembly from the vehicle. Pull the middle bulb out of the assembly and replace it with a new 3057-type bulb. If the problem persists, the issue may be with the fuse. Reassemble the tail light assembly and reinstall the screws and plugs. Close the tailgate.

    9

Lift up the hood and remove the fuse cover from the fuse panel. Remove the fuse in slot 9 and replace it with a 15A fuse. Reattach the cover and close the hood.
