Lucas Electrical is a United Kingdom-based manufacturing company that specializes in making automotive electrical supplies like solenoids, relays and flasher units. The company also manufactures column switches. Column switches are multifunction controllers mounted on the steering column of vehicles. They control an array of functions, which can include headlights, high beams, horn and turn signals. If a Lucas Electrical column switch goes bad, it should be replaced with a new unit. Replacement takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
Instructions
- 1
Open the hood of the vehicle and remove its negative battery cable with the adjustable wrench.
2Locate the two retaining screws underneath the steering column bezel that hold the upper and lower half of the steering column together. Remove these two screws with a Phillips screwdriver and set the bottom half of the bezel aside.
3Unplug the block of the column switch from the steering wheel. If there is a separate plastic wiring harness, unplug it. Some models have them, while others do not. Plug in the new switch's wiring harness, if there is one. Plug the new switch into the column block.
4Hold the bottom steering column bezel in place, insert the retaining screws and thread them by hand to get them started. Tighten them with a screwdriver.
5Replace the vehicle's negative battery cable with the adjustable wrench.
