New Delhi: Travelling via Indian railways is all set to get a transformation, for the good. Now, you can choose your favourite berth and coach via the e-ticketing format launched by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation ( IRCTC). This facility will hopefully be available from next month.
Media reports suggest that Delhi would have the facility starting 15 August.
This is a move to benefit the travelers, especially on trains like Shatabdi. They can now easily choose the seat according to their choice and convenience.
Another reason for the Rail ministry to roll out this facility is to make it easier for women, and elderly people to travel. This will hopefully lessen the distance from the last coach to the engine, which a lot of people have to make due to non-availability of seats elsewhere.
The IRCTC had previously upgraded their website, which has increased the speed of booking tickets upto three times if what it was earlier. It is now able to churn out 7200 e- tickets per minute. Earlier this number was just merely 2000.
This upgradation had cost the ministry about Rs. 100 crore.
