The only hybrid minivan out today is Toyota's Estima Hybrid Minivan, available in Japan. It was launched in 2001 as the first mass-produced four-wheel drive hybrid. The Sienna is American's (larger) version of the Estima. The hybrid Sienna will most likely be available in the US in 2007.

This seems like a huge opportunity for carmakers, that is just being left on the table. Most minivans retail in the high $20 to $30 thousand. It's quite likely the consumers who buy minivans would opt for the more expensive hybrid vehicle since minivans are already expensive. Consumers who buy minivans are looking for comfort and space, but are not worried about price. Give them a hybrid option, and I bet they would flock to buy them.
