Green Car Congress found a Nikkei report showing Japan will be cutting out the taxes on hybrid and electric vehicles. A typical tax for new cars is 5% of the car's price, and three years worth of the weight tax. But hybrid or electric cars will have the tax waived completely, while other types of 'environmentally friendly' could see 50-75% tax reduction.

Which is good news for us. Japanese companies have shown they are willing to export their hybrid technology to the US and elsewhere. When the Japanese government actively encourages that technology, the Japanese and other car makers who produce hybrids are encouraged to keep it up, and to continue to develop more.
