The biggest reason for not renting a hybrid is unavailability, and now it's getting easier. Enterprise Rent-A-Car is adding 5,000 hybrids to their nationwide fleet. With the concentration of hybrid vehicles at 80 branches, they can now be reserved online or by phone.
Enterprise, Hertz and Avis have been steadily building up their hybrid vehicle fleet over the past few years. And according to anecdotal reports, renting hybrids is paying off.
The 5,000 hybrids will more than double the number of hybrids Enterprise already has for rent.
Locations for Renting Hybrid Cars
The 80 'hybrid branches' are lcoated in 24 major markets including California (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento and Fresno); Colorado (Denver); Florida (Orlando, Tampa); New York (Albany, Ithaca, New York City, Rochester); Oregon (Eugene, Portland); Texas (Austin, Dallas, Houston); Atlanta; Boston; Detroit; Minneapolis; Philadelphia; St. Louis; Seattle; and Washington, D.C.
Which Hybrid Cars Are Available
Customers will be able to choose between the Toyota Prius, Nissan Altima Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid and Toyota Camry Hybrid. Rates for hybrid cars tend to be higher, but customers will pay less for fuel (may not be enough to offset the extra cost). But Enterprise thinks their customers are looking for something else.
"Whether they're traveling for business or pleasure, our customers continue to seek out environmentally friendly vehicle options," said Jeff Morrell, Vice President of Business Development for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. "Doubling our fleet of hybrid vehicles nationally is in direct response to that demand and furthers our commitment to help grow the market for new engine technologies and alternative fuels."
