The 1992 model was the last year of the Ranger's first generation, featuring power windows as an option. However, most Rangers still employed manual windows, requiring a functioning window crank. The crank itself, a simple handle that mounts to the window regulator stud which protrudes through the door panel, was made of plastic and prone to cracking over time. A new crank is fairly inexpensive and easily installed.

Instructions

    1

Slide the tip of the window crank removal tool between the crank and the door panel. Push the C-clip retainer off the base of the crank with the crank removal tool.

    2

Pry the window crank away from the door panel with the window crank removal tool to remove it.

    3

Align the splines inside the new window crank with the splines on the window regulator and push the crank onto the regulator stud until it's almost flush with the door panel. Steady, even pressure applied to the portion of the crank directly adjacent to the regulator stud will yield the best results.

    4

Position the C-clip on the new handle with your fingers. Push the clip into place with the window crank removal tool to complete the replacement.
