Changing the windshield wiper motor on a 1994 GMC pickup is a relatively simple task and requires only a few common tools. There is a common, but separate problem with the windshield wiper motor that you can repair. The intermittent or delay aspect of the wipers is a solid state board that you can purchase separately. The windshield wiper motor is located on the driver's side firewall.

Instructions

    1

Lift the base of one wiper arm up by hand. It is hinged so it will swivel up. Remove the nut securing the wiper arm to the shaft using a socket. Pull the washer hose off the wiper arm. Grab the arm and wiggle it as you pull it straight up off the shaft.

    2

Place a mark on the shaft where the wiper arm was pointing. This comes in handy when re-installing the arms in the event the shaft has moved. Repeat for the other wiper. Remove the cowl using the Torx driver to remove the screws. Unplug the electrical connections on the wiper motor.

    3

Remove the nut securing the wiper motor arm to the wiper motor from beneath the cowl using a socket. Remove the bolts securing the motor to the firewall using a socket. Remove the motor.

    4

Install the new motor on the firewall and tighten the bolts firmly. Install the wiper arm onto the wiper motor beneath the cowl. Install the cowl and screws. Plug the electrical plugs into the wiper motor.

    5

Install the wiper blade arms by aligning them with the mark made on the shaft. Push them straight down on the splines. Install the nuts and tighten it firmly. Plug the windshield washer hoses into the base of the wiper arms.

    6

Turn the ignition key to the "On" position. Turn on the wipers and make sure they are aligned correctly by the path they take on the windshield. If they are misaligned they will go too far and hit the driver's side of the window molding or they will bang against the cowl if too short. If necessary, remove the arms and re-adjust them so when they are turned off, the wiper parks itself on the cowl.
