How to Make Dual Race Baffles Louder

Dual race baffles are the final part of an exhaust system used on several models of sport motorcycles. The exhausts are manufactured by the Japanese company Yoshimura and distributed in the United States by Yoshimura USA. These exhausts make about a 95-decibel noise at 4000 revolutions per minute using standard measuring methods. However, there is a correlation between the amount of noise a motorcycle exhaust makes and the power the engine attached to that exhaust can make. Generally, the louder the exhaust, the more powerful the engine.

Instructions

    1

Park the motorcycle in first gear on level ground. Wait 20 minutes for the engine and the exhaust on the right side of your motorcycle to completely cool.

    2

Locate and remove the small black rubber cap from the side of the muffler using your fingers. The end cap is the decorative trim on the end of your muffler. The cap conceals a screw that holds a baffle insert inside the muffler shell.

    3

Remove the baffle insert screw with the Allen wrench that came with your muffler. Set the screw aside. You do not have to replace it to complete this job.

    4

Seize the end of the baffle insert inside your muffler with vise grips. Pull the baffle insert from the muffler shell. Store the baffle insert and the accompanying screw in a safe place in case you change your mind. Your exhaust will be 3 to 8 decibels louder at 4000 RPM.
