The Chrysler Concorde was one of the first of a long line of Chryslers in the early to mid-1990s intended to rebuild a slowly decaying lineup. Specifically, the Concordes responsibility was to replace the very much outdated Fifth Avenue. The 1998 Concorde had an optional center speaker, which Chrysler mounted in the middle of the dashboard. Upon first glance, this speaker may seem a lost cause when it fails because of its positioning in the dash. But Chrysler made the upper dashboard panel removable, which greatly reduces the amount of work required to install a center speaker in the 1998 Concorde.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Pry upward on each edge of the upper dashboard cover, the pad on the top of the dashboard, with a trim stick to disengage its outer retaining clips.
2Disengage the retaining clips along the rearmost part of the dashboard pad using the trim stick. Pull the upper dashboard cover rearward sharply by its rearmost edge to disengage the retaining clips on the front-most edge of the upper dashboard cover.
3Remove the upper dashboard cover from the dashboard, exposing the center dashboard speaker.
4Unfasten the two screws retaining the center speaker using a Phillips screwdriver, and remove the plastic retainer from atop the speaker. Lift the speaker far enough to access its wiring harness and disconnect the harness. Remove the speaker.
Installation
- 5
Plug the wiring harness into the center speaker and lower the speaker into its cavity in the top of the dashboard. Set the plastic retainer atop the speaker, then tighten the two speaker retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
6Line up the retaining clips on the front-most part of the upper dashboard cover with their holes in the front-most part of the dashboard. Press the dashboard cover firmly toward the front of the vehicle to engage the retaining clips.
7Lower the rearmost part of the dashboard to align the rear and side retaining clips with their holes in the dashboard. Press downward on the rearmost part and each side of the dashboard cover.
