Dodge changed the name of its pickup trucks to Ram in 1981; however, the Rams head first appeared as a hood ornament on Dodge pickups in 1933. The 2007 Dodge Ram came in three sizes: 1500, 2500 and 3500. Each of these came standard with a six-speed manual transmission. Unlike most manual transmission knobs, the one on the 2007 Dodge Ram does not simply twist off; it actually has a hidden nut that you need to remove before you can pull it off.

Instructions

Removal

    1

Look on the top of the shifter knob and find the seam between the circular gear pattern panel (the component that shows where each gear is) and the shifter knob.

    2

Insert the blade of a small flat-head screwdriver in the seam found in Step 1 and pry upward around the circumference of the gear pattern panel until you can grab the panel with your hands. Grip the panel and pull it upward, exposing the shifter knob-retaining nut below it.

    3

Remove the shifter knob-retaining nut with a ratchet and socket. Pull upward on the shifter knob to remove it.

Installation

    4

Guide the shifter knob onto the shifter lever and hand-tighten its retaining nut. Tighten the nut with a ratchet and socket.

    5

Position the gear pattern panel on the top of the shifter knob, so that its in the correct position: 1, 3, 5 and R toward the front of the truck.

    6

Press downward on the gear pattern panel until it seats into place inside the hole in the top of the gear shifter knob.
