The Beretta was one of the more forgettable of models in Chevys lineup through the 1980s and 1990s, though it did have some highlights. The 1990 model year was the pinnacle year for this model, as Chevy managed to shoehorn three convertible versions of the Beretta into the Indianapolis 500 as pace cars. The 1990 Beretta was never available as a convertible, but it did come in three trim levels: Base, GT and GTZ. Knowing the wiring harness color codes of the 1990 Beretta GTs radio helps greatly when looking to upgrade the audio system, or when tracing a short in the system.

Power Wires

The 1990 Beretta GTs radio requires two sources of power. One source, known as the constant, provides a constant feed of 12 volts to the radio to retain its memory for the radio presets and the clock. The wire that provides this power is orange.

The second wire, known as the switched power, provides 12 volts when the key is in the Acc or Run position. This turns the radio off and on with the ignition. This wire is yellow in color.

Ground

The 1990 Beretta GTs radio has a dedicated ground wire. This wire is black in color and grounds out on the lower left side of the engine block.

Illumination

The 1990 Beretta GTs radio requires two illumination wires. The main illumination wire, which is gray in color, is what turns the radios lights off and on with the lights of the vehicle. The second illumination wire, which is brown, connects to the Berettas interior light dimmer switch and increases or decreases the brightness of the radios lights with the other interior lights.

If you are installing an aftermarket radio, keep in mind that not all aftermarket radios have both illumination wires. If your replacement radio lacks one or both wires, clip any exposed wire off the two illumination wires in the vehicle and tape the ends to prevent shorting out the Berettas electrical system.

Speaker Wiring

The 1990 Beretta GT has a four-speaker stereo system -- two front speakers and two rear speakers. The right-front speakers positive wire is light-green, and its negative wire is dark-green. The left-front speakers positive wire is tan, and its negative wire is gray. The right-rear speakers positive wire is dark-blue, and the negative wire is light-blue. The left rear speakers positive wire is brown, and its negative wire is yellow.

Antenna

The 1990 Beretta GT has two antenna wires. The main antenna wire accepts the radio signals from the antenna and delivers them to the radio. This wire is black in color and is thicker that all of the other wires on the radio.

The second antenna wire activates the power antenna, which only extends when its needed. This wire is pink.
