How to Remove the Screws From the Throttle Position Sensor on a 97 Taurus

The throttle position sensor on a 1997 Ford Taurus is located on the throttle body, on the opposite side of the throttle linkage attached to the butterfly valve, and is secured with two Torx-head screws. The 1997 Taurus throttle position sensor is a non-adjustable potentiometer that ranges from .50 volt at idle to 5 volts when the throttle is wide open. It is one of the sensors used by the computer to adjust the timing of the fuel injector.

Instructions

    1

Loosen the clamps on the air duct from the air cleaner to the throttle body, using a screwdriver. Pull the air duct off the throttle body. Unplug the throttle position sensor.

    2

Remove the two Torx head screws securing the throttle position sensor to the throttle body, using the appropriate Torx-head driver. Turn the screws counterclockwise for removal.

    3

Install the throttle position sensor by placing the sensor's rear tab above the throttle plate lever. Hold the sensor tight against the throttle body and rotate it into position to align the two screw holes. Install the two Torx-head screws and tighten them.

    4

Plug in the sensor connector. Install the air duct to the throttle body and tighten the clamps with the screwdriver.
