When a low-beam headlight burns out, you know it. Limited vision at night caused by a burned out low-beam headlight can be dangerous. Turning on your high beams to compensate for having only one low-beam headlight and blinding oncoming traffic is not the answer. The headlight assemblies on your 2006 Pontiac G6 house the high- and low-beam headlight bulbs. Change the low-beams bulbs in just a few minutes.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and find the two retaining screws on the top of the headlight assembly in which you wish to replace the low beam bulb. Remove the screws with a socket and ratchet wrench.

    2

Locate the six push pins that attach the front grille fascia to the structure of the car. Pry up the pins with a flat-blade screwdriver. Push back on the edge of the fascia near the inboard edge of the headlight. Pull straight out on the inboard edge of the headlight to separate it from the car. Release the fascia.

    3

Grasp the headlight assembly with both hands and pull it away from the front fender to release the ball stud that secures the assembly to the fender. Twist the bulb access cover on the back side of the headlight assembly off in a counterclockwise direction.

    4

Twist the low-beam headlight bulb socket -- the center position in the assembly between the parking light and the high-beam bulb -- in a counterclockwise direction and pull it straight out of the bulb assembly.

    5

Depress the release tab and pull the low-beam bulb straight out of the socket on the headlight wiring harness. Push a new H11 low-beam head light bulb into the socket until it snaps into place. Push the socket back into the bulb assembly in the headlight and twist it in a clockwise direction until it locks into place.

    6

Tighten the access cover onto the back side of the headlight. Pull back on the grille fascia so that the headlight can be installed. Push the headlight into place on the car so that the ball stub on the front fender engages. Release the fascia. Replace the two retaining screws on top of the headlight assembly and tighten them. Push down on the six push pins on top of the fascia. Close the hood.

    7

Repeat the procedure to replace the remaining low-beam headlight, if desired.
