Your Honda Civic comes equipped with several gauges on its instrument cluster, including the odometer, tachometer and speedometer. If you wish to make these gauges brighter in order to see them more clearly in the dark, you can install brighter dash lights or replace the entire cluster with a cluster containing glow gauges that glow in the dark. You will only need standard tools to complete this task.

Instructions

Accessing the Gauges

    1

Open the Civic's hood and use a socket wrench to disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

    2

Open the Civic's driver-side door. Remove the upper dash trim from around the cluster by using a Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the upper dash trim and then pull it off.

    3

Remove the three Phillips screws securing the cluster to the Civic using a Phillips screwdriver.

    4

Pull the cluster towards you and reach behind the cluster. Disconnect its two wiring connectors.

    5

Pull the cluster out of the vehicle.

Replacing the Bulbs

    6

Reach behind the cluster to locate all of the dash bulbs.

    7

Remove the bulbs by pulling them straight out. Install brighter replacement bulbs by pushing them into the socket.

    8

Reconnect the cluster's connectors and place it back into the Civic.

    9

Reattach the screws to secure the cluster to the Civic. Reattach the upper dash trim and its screws.

    10

Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery and close the hood.

Installing Glow Gauges

    11

Connect the two wiring connectors to the replacement instrument cluster containing the glow gauges.

    12

Place the replacement instrument cluster into the Civic.

    13

Reattach the screws to secure the cluster to the Civic.

    14

Reattach the upper dash trim and its two screws.

    15
