Easily complete the oil changes on a 2001 SLK 320 yourself, saving considerable money, however, on a Mercedes its eventual value is dependent on the accuracy and frequency of its service. This type of vehicle needs to have every service documented. Saving receipts and transcribing all service in the owner's service record is important to its resale. The 2001 SLK 320 requires 8.5 quarts of synthetic 5W30 oil. It is always necessary to replace the oil filter with every oil change.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood and locate the oil filter. It's on the driver's side and is a black plastic looking canister with a large nut on the top cap. Remove the cap with a large socket by turning the cap counterclockwise.

    2

Lift the cap off and remove the canister oil filter. Replace the oil ring on the cap with the new one that comes with the filter. Insert the new cartridge filter and the cap. Spin the cap on clockwise and tighten it with a socket.

    3

Raise the driver's side of the car with the floor jack under the jacking point directly behind the front tire. Place a jack stand under the frame for safety. Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.

    4

Remove the drain plug using the appropriate size Hex head socket and ratchet. Allow the oil to drain for 15 minutes. Install the drain plug and tighten it snugly. Do not over tighten the drain plug or the pan will crack.

    5

Lower the car to the ground. Remove the oil filler cap and fill the engine with 8.5 quarts of synthetic 5W30 oil. Replace the cap. Dispose of the oil in an appropriate manner --- most auto parts stores have a disposal tank and will recycle the oil for customers.
