The power window motor and regulator are replaced as a unit on the 2005 Ford F-150. It uses a twin post cable type of system. The cables in the system are prone to failure more often than the scissors type of systems. Each regulator and motor combination is door specific, which means that the door that is getting the regulator must be specified when ordering. They are not interchangeable from one door to another.

Instructions

    1

Pry the power window switch panel up from the rear using the small screwdriver. Unplug the electrical connectors. Remove the screw inside the power window switch cavity, using a ratchet and socket. Pry the concealment cover out from behind the door handle using the small screwdriver. Remove the two exposed screws using a socket and ratchet.

    2

Pull the door handle out and unsnap the door latch cable to the rear of the door handle by pushing it out of its slot. Remove the single screw located to the rear of the hole in the door panel vacated by the window switch using a socket and ratchet.

    3

Pry the large section of door panel speaker concealment cover just forward of the door pull using the small screwdriver and remove the cover. Remove the four screws in the door speaker using a socket and ratchet. Withdraw the speaker enough to disengage the electrical connector and lay the speaker aside. Pull the rubber speaker water shield from the speaker's cutout and pull the two plastic speaker standoffs from the panel, using needle-nose pliers.

    4

Remove the two screws in the bottom of the door panel using a socket and ratchet. Lift the door panel up to unhook the rear of the panel and lay it aside. Peel the moisture shield back to expose the openings in the door used to access the window regulator.

    5

Loosen the bolt on each of the two window-support clamps using a socket and ratchet. These are in the form of squeeze type clamps. Lift the window up out of the clamps and tape the window in the up position.

    6

Remove the bolt on the top of each of the window posts using a socket and ratchet. Just loosen the bottom bolts on the lift posts. Remove the bolts in the center of the door securing the window motor to the door using a socket and ratchet.

    7

Lift both posts to dislodge the lower bolts from the slots in the door. Move the front window post and the motor toward the rear of the door. As the motor is exposed in the access panel, unplug the wiring harness connector.

    8

Remove the window regulator from the door and lay it on the ground in the same orientation as it was in the door. Lay the new regulator next to the old and make sure it is positioned correctly. Transfer the bolts in the bottom of each post to the new regulator posts. Thread each bolt in a few threads only.

    9

Insert the forward post first followed by the motor. Plug the electrical connector into the motor and continue to insert the regulator into the door. Lift each post and insert the lower bolt into the slot in the door. Tighten the top and bottom bolts to 8 foot-pounds using a torque wrench and ratchet.

    10

Hold the window switch panel close to the door and plug it in temporarily. Turn the key on but do not start the truck. Move the window regulator up to the middle of the access holes in the door.

    11

Remove the tape from the window and carefully lower the window into the regulator window clamps. Tighten the regulator-to-window bolts to 80 inch-pounds using an inch-pound torque wrench. Unplug the window switch panel and turn off the key.

    12

Install the moisture shield. Hold the door panel close to the door and pull the window switch harness through the hole in the door panel. Install the door panel by aligning the hooks in the rear of the panel with the slots in the door. Push in on the panel to insert the hooks and lower the panel.

    13

Install the screws in the bottom of the door. Install the screw in the rear of the window switch panel hole. Press the speaker standoffs into place in the speaker cutout and set the speaker water shield in place on the bottom of the speaker cutout. Plug in the speaker and install it in the door panel. Install the four screws in the speaker. Install the concealment panel over the speaker and snap its trim fasteners into the door panel.

    14

Install the door handle by inserting the lead end of the door latch cable into the actuating arm hole and snapping the rear white part of the cable into the rear of the door handle. Push the cable into the slot until it snaps in place. Install the bolts in the door handle securing it to the door. Install the plastic concealment cover over the bolts. Plug the electrical connectors into the back of the window switch panel and snap the panel into place.
