Lifters are an important part of the engine that help coordinate the movement of the pistons and the opening of the valves to release exhaust and allow a mixture of air and fuel into the engine. There are two types of lifters: hydraulic and solid. Solid lifters allow for your engine to run safely if you regularly have it running very hard, but they need to be adjusted periodically so that they do not get loose.
Instructions
- 1
Pull all the covers up on your lifters. This will make it easier for you to access the pushrods.
2Take the engine out and orient it so that the lifter you want to adjust is at its lowest point.
3Loosen the locking nut with the wrench so that you can adjust the pushrods.
4Turn the adjusting screw of the solid lifter until you can rotate the pushrod with your fingers with a small amount of drag.
5Tighten the locking nut with the wrench and recheck the pushrod.
6Repeat for the remaining solid lifters. Replace engine in car and close the covers.
