Due to the age of a 1999 Jeep, using the traditional method of draining the radiator is not recommended. The petcocks on radiators are usually made of soft metal that corrodes or rusts easily. Over time, the petcock freezes. If you try to open it, you risk breaking it. Using alternative methods prevents this possibility when you drain the coolant.

Instructions

    1

Drive your Jeep onto a set of front end ramps and secure the parking break. This places the lower radiator hose at the lowest point in the coolant system, which forces more of the coolant out of the radiator.

    2

Place your drain pan under the lower radiator hose where it connects to the radiator.

    3

Squeeze the two tabs on the radiator hose clamp together with a pair of pliers. This releases the clamp's pressure on the radiator hose. With the clamps squeezed together, pull the hose off the radiator. The coolant will flow out of the radiator and the hose, so aim the hose into the drain pan.
