The Accel 150001 is an automotive ballast resistor, designed for vehicles that employ "point-type" ignition systems. The Accel 150001 features a resistance rating of .85 ohms and a threaded mounting stud, compatible with most applications. The main purpose behind using a ballast resistor is to lower the voltage supplied to the connected ignition components during normal operation, while allowing the electrical system to supply as much power as possible to the engine's starting system.
Instructions
- 1
Turn off the vehicle's engine.
2Open the vehicle's hood and allow the engine to completely cool.
3Examine the engine compartment and locate the defective ballast resistor. The ballast resistor features a white ceramic exterior and two wire terminal connections. Typically, the ballast resistor is mounted on the firewall, or near the ignition coil; refer to your vehicles repair manual for the exact location, if needed.
4Disconnect the two terminal wires from the ballast resistor.
5Remove the mounting nut from the threaded stud, using an appropriate size socket.
6Fit the Accel 150001 to the mounting flange. Secure the new ballast resistor to the mounting flange, using the old nut. Carefully tighten the nut with the socket. Do not over tighten the nut as damage to the resistor will occur.
7Connect the two wire connections to the ballast resistor's connection terminals to finish the process.
