Cambers are a type of shock absorber that straighten the wheels on a vehicle. They are added to an F-150 when a body modification kit is installed or wheels of a different size are attached. Cambers wear out over time and need to be replaced to avoid uneven wear on the vehicles tires and suspension. Cambers fit tightly into the vehicle's suspension and require some effort to remove. With just a few tools a camber can be removed in less than an hour.
Instructions
- 1
Loosen the lug nuts with a lug wrench. Place a jack under the Ford F-150's frame and lift it. Place jack stands under both sides of the vehicle's frame.
2Remove the lug nuts with the lug wrench. Remove the wheel.
3Place an adjustable wrench on the head of the camber pinch bolt. Attach a socket wrench to the nut. Turn the socket wrench slowly until the adjustable wrench lodges against the vehicle frame.
4Remove the nut. Remove the camber pinch bolt. Tap the pinch bolt out with a hammer if it sticks.
5Position a flathead screwdriver under the edge of the camber bushing. Tap the screwdriver's handle with a hammer until it is lodged firmly under the rim of the bushing. Pry up on the bushing.
6Move the screwdriver to the opposite side and repeat. Continue to go from one side to the other until the bushing is out far enough to fit a pry bar underneath the rim.
7Pry the bushing up on alternating sides until it comes free of the suspension.
