How to Remove the Door Panels From a 2000 Chevy S-10

Chevrolet offered the S-10 small pickup truck from 1982 to 2004. During that time, the truck saw a variety of changes, both cosmetic and mechanical. One significant improvement was the offering of power windows and locks. The 2000 S-10 offered both these options to consumers. Any malfunction with the power components associated with these systems requires the door panel's removal for repair or replacement. The door panels hide the inner door access holes from sight. They also deaden sound from outside the cabin and provide housing for the power switches and arm rest.

Remove the screw from the inner door handle bezel, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pry the bezel out from behind handle, using the trim tool.

Remove the two bolts below the arm rest, using the socket wrench and 7-mm deep dish socket.

Pry the power switch bezel from the door panel, using the trim tool. Disconnect both switches from the door harness by depressing their retaining tabs and pulling the connectors out of the switches.

Pry the door panel off the door skin, using the trim tool -- there are six trim pins that hold the panel to the door that you'll need to pry loose before you can lift the panel off the door to complete the removal process (if you break one of these pins, you can buy replacements at the auto parts store for a small fee).

Align the trim pins on the backside of the door panel with their holes in the door skin and push the door panel firmly to re-seat the pins to begin the door panel re-installation process. Plug the wiring harness into the window and lock switches. Snap the switch bezel into the door panel.

Reinstall the two bolts under the arm rest, using the socket and wrench. Reinstall the inner door handle bezel. Reinstall the screw in the door handle bezel.
