How to Lower the Seat Height on a Moto Guzzi

Moto Guzzi is a respected line of Italian-made motorcycles. In business since the 1920s, Moto Guzzi has come under corporate ownership. Moto Guzzis are generally considered among the top models of European motorcycles. Moto Guzzis are noted for their low centers of gravity and low seat heights, so if you're having a problem with a Moto Guzzi motorcycle's seat height, riding a motorcycle may not be ideal for you. Seats on Moto Guzzis are not meant to be raised or lowered; altering the seat in fact could negatively affect the way the bike rides, possibly downing the Guzzi trademark flying eagle.

Instructions

    1

Lower your suspension in the rear of the bike. This is the easiest way to alter the seat height, but it could cause rides to be bumpy and painful. Unless you have experience working on bikes, you'll most likely want a mechanic to do this.

    2

Cut out a portion of the seat. Measure and mark the shape of your butt on the seat. Then cut down into the seat foam using a knife or a pair of scissors. This will most likely ruin the seat and cause it to fall apart but may lower your sitting height. A better idea is to let an upholsterer reshape and re-cover the seat. Coordinate with the prospective collaborator before you pull the seat off the bike. Finally, look for an aftermarket seat for your Guzzi. Other companies may manufacture applicable seats that have lower profiles.

    3

Wear taller boots when you ride. Added heel size can potentially compensate for your lack of height.

    4

Talk with a mechanic about your options. If you're in need of only a slight height adjustment, a combination of customizing the suspension and bringing a smaller seat forward a bit could give you the clearance you need.
