Replacing the windshield wiper fluid reservoir in a 2000 Altima is not difficult when you know the secret to getting to the bolts. The reservoir is L-shaped with the lower concealed part extending toward the radiator. These reservoirs have a tendency to crack or split at or around the filler neck. Rather than replace the unit, try repairing it with plastic weld compound, which you can find at most auto parts stores. Even if you intend to repair the tank, however, you'll probably want to remove it from the car.

Instructions

    1

Open the hood. Look for a hole in the reservoir support, which is located between the reservoir and the radiator. Reach down through the hole in front of the reservoir and disconnect the electrical harness connector from the windshield washer pump. Press in on the wire clip in the center of the connector and pull it off.

    2

Remove the two Phillips screws in the passenger side marker lamp and lift the lamp out. Let it hang by the wires. Place the 10 mm socket on the long extension and insert it into the opening left by the side marker. Remove the 10 mm nut on the bottom of the reservoir.

    3

Remove the 10 mm nut on the top rear of the reservoir using a socket. Lift the reservoir out of the fender well.

    4

Transfer the pump motor to the new reservoir. It is only pressed into a rubber grommet. Insert the new reservoir and install the upper 10 mm nut and tighten it snugly. Install the lower 10 mm nut through the side marker opening with the long extension.

    5

Press the side marker into the fender and install the two Phillips screws. Reach down through the hole and push the electrical connector onto the windshield washer motor.
