Car parts are not always interchangeable, particularly when it comes to your car's windshield. Unlike much of the car, where a scratch or dent might not cause you much trouble, driving with a damaged windshield can be dangerous and in many states illegal. To fix or replace your windshield, the first thing you need to know is what kind of windshield you are dealing with.
Instructions
- 1
Locate the information marking on your windshield. All windshields have them, but they're not all the same. You'll find this marking around the edge of the windshield. It may be a small sticker or it may be information etched into the windshield itself.
2Determine if the first name on top of the information marking is the manufacturer of the car itself. If you see "Honda," and your vehicle is a Honda, then that's not the name of the actual windshield brand.
3Locate the name beneath the car manufacturer on the marking, or the first name if the car manufacturer is not listed. This is the name of the windshield brand you are looking for. Below it will be the name of the glass itself, plus numbers identifying the exact type of windshield it is.
4Consult your driver's manual if you cannot locate the brand of windshield you have. If the marking has come off, the manual should provide you with the name of the windshield brand.
