Ford started selling the Ford Econoline Van in 1961. 70 percent of all vans on the road are Econolines, making it the most popular van in the United States. Converting your manual windows to electric involves installing a new window regulator and connecting a motor to it. This work is pretty simple and can be completed by anyone in about an hour.

Instructions

    1

Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws attached to the door handle and the inner door panel. Remove them both from the door and place them in a safe area along with their screws for reattachment once the work is done.

    2

Locate the window regulator. The window regulator is a metallic cross shaped component which has a horizontal bar at the top, which the window connects to. Lower the window regulator as far down as you can within the door frame. This will make it easier to remove the window pane.

    3

Use a hex wrench to remove the two hex bolts which connect the window regulator to the window pane. Lift the window out of the door frame and place in a safe area. Make sure you do not damage the window because you will need to replace it.

    4

Take the lower bolts out of the window regulator and lift it away from the door. Place the regulator motor at the bottom of the door access panel. Secure the motor in place by fixing bolts to the motor's bracket. Run the wiring from the motor to the wiring relay underneath the dashboard. Connect the motor wiring to the relay.

    5

Place the new window regulator above the motor and secure in place by attaching new mounting bolts using a wrench. Attach an electrical connector from the motor to the window regulator. This can be done by inserting it with your hands.

    6

Slide the window back in to the door frame. Line up the hex holes on the window regulator with those on the window. Thread two hex bolts back in between the two components. Reattach the door panel and door handle by fixing them on to the door and placing the mounting screws back in to them with the screwdriver.
