Hettich are a forward thinking company focused on the future. Their products give you so many advantages because they know exactly what kitchen users want and expect and they know how you will be living in your kitchen tomorrow.

Hettich’s "Kitchen Concept 2015" innovation study shows us what a kitchen could look like in 2015 and now we’re only a few years off it seems they got the design side of things spot on with wrap-around surfaces that link the splashback with the worktop and sink, and barely-there kitchens, where a bank of floor-to-ceiling cupboards makes up a wall of storage, leaving worktops uncluttered and avoiding wall units.

Lisa Melvin's signature 'Entertainer Kitchen' is very similar in terms of design to Hettich's 2015 vision.

Hettich built their concept kitchen and demonstrated it at Interzum 2009 in Cologne. Ciick on the image below to watch the video.

Technology
There is a high chance that the kitchen of the future will be here very soon as technology is improving rapidly and the world has to keep up. There already is a touch screen oven but just how long is it untill we get touch screen stoves or cabinets that open to the sound of your voice or the touch of the hand?

A product currently on the market today is a fridge that has a 11” touch screen TV on the door! It can be used to see the weather later that day, watch YouTube , social media and listen to music. There are endless possibilities of what can be touch screen and how soon that will be

A couple of years ago if you said this as a idea you would have been called crazy but now constantly using technology 24/7 is just a normal part of a everyday living. I don’t think that anyone would have thought that the kitchen design would have come as far as it has today.

Evolution of Kitchen Design
Back in 2003 kitchens focused on separate wall and base units with wooden or matt worksurfaces and units and elaborate colours were few and far between. Appliances such as the microwave and cooker were not as complex and gas hobs were popular instead of induction hobs.

A more traditional kitchen was popular a few years ago

Today’s kitchens are very different compared to a couple of years ago. We now have touch screen fridges and microwaves, some of which have built in televisions ranging from 11” all the way up to 32” LCD screens. You can get glowing work surfaces and lights that are controlled with your voice or a snapof the fingers or the clap of your hands. Work surfaces and units are glossy, bright and bold.

Lisa Melvin works with her clients to create their dream kitchens with the latest designs and technology.
