According to some analysts, sales may be up in pickups and SUVs. With the lower gas prices, it seems consumers are expected to look into bigger vehicles, which is good news for domestic carmakers. But no one expects this would be a long term turnaround for most consumers looking for smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles.

But U.S. gasoline prices at the pump dropped almost 17 percent in September, with unleaded gas down to $2.32 per gallon on average as of Sunday, Oct. 1, according to the AAA.
