In 2005, Ford released the Freestyle crossover SUV, which combined an SUV, minivan and sedan into one efficient package. Following the 2007 model year, Ford changed the Freestyles name to Taurus X, bringing an end to the short-lived Freestyle. Replacing the turn signal bulb in the 2006 Freestyle is a pretty simple task, but the rear does require removing the taillight assembly to access it. Despite the additional steps on the rear, replacing any of the turn signal bulbs in the 2006 Freestyle is a task that most owners can perform.
Instructions
Front Turn Signal Bulb
- 1
Open the hood and find the turn signal bulb socket on the backside of the headlight assembly. Rotate the socket counterclockwise to unlock it and pull it from the headlight assembly.
2Pull the turn signal bulb from the socket, using a slight wiggling motion. Hold a new No. 3157 bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth touching the glass part of the bulb with your bare hands can cause it to fail prematurely and press it into the socket.
3Guide the new bulb and the turn signal socket into the headlight assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it in place. Close the hood.
Rear Turn Signal Bulb
- 4
Open the rear hatch and remove the two screws that secure the taillight assembly to the rear hatch jamb, using a ratchet and socket. Pull the taillight assembly away from the vehicle just enough to access the bulb sockets on its backside.
5Turn the turn signal socket counterclockwise to unlock it and pull it from the taillight assembly. Pull the turn signal bulb from the socket, using a slight wiggling motion.
6Hold a new No. 4057 light bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth to avoid contacting it with your bare hands and press it into the turn signal socket. Insert the socket and new bulb into the taillight assembly and twist the socket clockwise to lock it in place.
7Align the locating dowels on the taillight assembly with the holes in the taillight assembly bed and press the taillight assembly into place on the rear of the Freestyle. Tighten the two taillight assembly screws until they are snug. Close the rear hatch.
