How to Get the Paint Fumes out of a Vehicle

Small enclosed spaces, such as your vehicle, can make the faintest of foul smells seem overwhelming, especially if your car is parked outside on a hot day. While the odor of rotten garbage, spilled milk or a dirty diaper are unpleasant to smell in the car, these are not smells that are dangerous to your health. If your car was recently painted and the smell of paint fumes is lingering in your car you can become ill. Paint fumes carry toxins that are dangerous to your body and if you inhale them long enough you could become ill, which is why you must remove the fumes from your vehicle before you go anywhere.

Instructions

    1

Open your windows to remove the air from the vehicle. The best way to remove fumes from a small space, such as your vehicle, is to get the air flowing so it removes the fumes by bringing in fresh air. If your car has a convertible top or a sunroof you should open those as well. Park your car outside of your garage to do this.

    2

Open the doors and trunk of your car. Even if the windows are down, the more air that enters your car the better. Bringing in fresh air, by creating maximum exposure, removes fumes faster.

    3

Remove paint fumes from the air in your car by placing a small bowl of vinegar on the floor board or one of the seats. The vinegar removes fumes from the air as well as deodorizes the space to make the smell more tolerable.
