The 2006 Nissan Frontier features a Double-DIN size in-dash stereo unit, with an optional Rockford Fosgate in-dash CD changer and satellite radio system for upgraded Nismo and LE models. Removing the factory in-dash unit for your 2006 Frontier may be necessary when upgrading the sound system with an after-market head unit, or replacing a defective unit with a matching factory stereo.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Turn off the vehicle and open the hood.
2Disconnect the black negative (-) battery terminal from the battery, using an appropriate size socket or wrench.
3Examine the upper dash panel area and locate the rectangular holder directly above the radio unit. Remove the holder by carefully prying around the edges, using a trim removal tool.
4Remove the single Phillips head screw located inside the mounting area for the holder.
5Pry around the center dash bezel with the trim removal tool and remove the bezel from the dashboard.
6Remove the four small mounting screws located on the top and sides of the radio.
7Slide the radio out of the dash and disconnect the wiring harness and antenna connections from the rear to finish the removal process.
Installation
- 8
Connect the factory radio harness and antenna to the replacement unit.
9Slide the new stereo unit into the dash mounting area.
10Secure the radio to the dash using the four original mounting screws. Replace the center dash bezel and secure the trim piece using the single screw.
