The idle air control motor is located on the front of the engine or on the throttle body, depending on what year, make and model vehicle you have. It only controls idle speed. When you slow down to a stop or go slow enough to turn a sharp corner and the vehicle is idling and has a load -- such as the air compressor running -- it brings the idle up so the vehicle does not stall. If the idle air control malfunctions, the vehicle will stall when you come to a stop, and will try to stall, if not stall, when turning a sharp corner.

Instructions

    1

Unplug the idle air control motor. If it has an air hose on it, loosen the clamp with a screwdriver. Pull the air hose off the idle air control.

    2

Remove the two retaining bolts on the idle air control motor. Pull the idle air control motor off the engine.

    3

Install the new idle air control motor and tighten the bolts firmly. Do not over-tighten the bolts or you could destroy the idle air. Reattach the air hose, if applicable. Start the engine to ensure proper operation.
