The 2002 model year was a huge one for the Explorer, as the model underwent a complete transformation: new body design, new platform and longer wheelbase. Oddly enough, the Explorer Sport was left out of this rejuvenation, as it continued on completely unchanged, an ominous sign that the end of the Explorer Sport was near. The base model 2002 Explorer Sport did not have fog lamps available, but the higher trim levels did have them as an available option. Replacing the fog lamps on the Explorer Sport is a straightforward task that most owners can perform.
Instructions
- 1
Raise the front of the Explorer with a floor jack and slide jack stands under its frame rails. Lower the SUV onto the jack stands.
2Crawl under the vehicle until you can see the rear of the bumper. Press and hold the unlocking button on the wiring harness plugged into the failed fog lamp, then pull the harness from the fog lamp.
3Twist the fog lamp counterclockwise to unlock it, and pull it from the fog lamp assembly.
4Insert a new style 9145 light bulb into the fog lamp assembly and twist it clockwise to lock it into place. Plug the wiring harness into the fog lamps socket; listen for it to click into place.
5Raise the Explorer Sport off the jack stands with a floor jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the SUV to the ground.
