In 1998, the Corolla entered its eighth generation, as Toyota modernized the Corolla to remain competitive with the likes of the Honda Civic and Nissan Sentra. The eighth generation brought about the introduction of an all-aluminum 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine in 1998, VVT-i variable valve timing in 2000 and the "S" trim level in 2001. A 10-amp fuse protects the 2001 Corolla's instrument panel from any unexpected power surges or other irregularities. When this fuse blows, none of the gauges will work until you replace the instrument panel fuse.
Instructions
- 1
Find the fuse-panel access door inside the passenger compartment to the left of the steering wheel, near the bottom of the dashboard. Grab the handle and pull the door from the fuse panel.
2Locate the instrument panel fuse -- the third fuse from the top in the first column of fuses. The instrument panel fuse has "Gauge" imprinted above it.
3Grab both sides of the instrument panel fuse with your fingers and pull the fuse from the fuse panel with a slight wiggling motion.
4Insert a new 10-amp fuse, and line up the blades on the fuse with the slots were the old fuse was. Press the new 10-amp fuse into the fuse panel.
5Insert the tabs on the bottom of the fuse panel access door into the slots in the dashboard. Press the top of the fuse panel access door toward the dashboard until the clips snap into place.
