The LT-R450 is a four-wheeled, all-terrain vehicle (ATV) manufactured by Suzuki. One modification frequently made by those who race ATVs is the addition of a kill switch. A kill switch, also referred to as a tether or lanyard, is a safety precaution that cuts power to the engine if the driver is accidentally knocked off the ATV. Installation of the Suzuki LT R450 kill switch takes less than 30 minutes.
Instructions
- 1
Use a screwdriver to mount the kill switch to the handlebars of the Suzuki. Mounting hardware is included with kill switch kits. One end of the kill switch clamps over the handlebar, and is tightened down with a screw. MPS Racing is one manufacturer of ATV kill switches.
2Remove the spark plug wire from the plug by hand. The spark plug is located on the top left-hand side of most ATV engines. Wrap the positive kill switch wire, designated by a (+) sign, around the spark plug by twisting it several times around the plug's head by hand. Replace the spark plug wire by hand, to enclose the plug and kill switch wire connection.
3Attach the kill switch's negative wire to a ground screw or bolt on the engine chassis, using either an adjustable wrench or screwdriver. The negative kill switch wire is designated by a (-) sign. The engine chassis is a metal part of the frame.
4Insert the key into the kill switch and attach the tether to your wrist. Start the ATV, then pull on the tether to test it. The motion should jerk the key from the kill switch and the engine should shut off.
