The door panel on a 2000 Chevy Blazer is attached with a combination of 7 mm screws, a Phillips screw and trim fasteners behind the panel. It is a simple process to remove the panel to replace the door speakers. If after-market speakers are to be used, always make sure the replacement speakers meet or exceed the output wattage of the radio. If it is rated at 100 watts, divide it by 4 for the wattage per speaker. The radio will put out as much as 25 watts per speaker.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Remove the Phillips screw in the plastic cover behind the inside door handle. Remove the cover. Remove the two 7 mm screws under the door pull or arm rest by using the 7 mm nut driver.
2Lift the window switch panel up from the front and remove it. Turn it over and unplug all the electrical connectors by using the two small screwdrivers. Use one screwdriver to depress the locking mechanism and the other to pry out the connector.
3Wrap a rag around the door panel remover tool or putty knife and insert it between the door panel and the door. Pry all the trim fasteners out on both sides and the bottom of the door panel. Lift the panel to release the upper portion of the panel from the doorsill, then remove the panel.
4Drill out the 1/4-inch rivets securing the speaker to the door. Before detaching the two speaker wires make a note on which side the wire with the stripe is located so the wires can be installed in the same position for the correct polarity. Remove the wire connectors.
Installation
- 5
Plug the speaker wires on the terminals in the same location as removed. Position the speaker and rivet it to the door by using the 1/4-inch rivets and rivet gun.
6Hang the door panel on the top doorsill by angling it slightly, then swing it down into position. Make sure the door handle passes through the opening in the door panel. Lift the wiring harness for the window switch up through the hole for the switch panel.
7Align the trim fasteners with the holes in the door and press them in. Install the two 7 mm screws in the armrest or door pull.
8Install the plastic cover behind the door handle and install the Phillips screw. Plug the electrical connectors into the window switch and install the switch panel rear first, then push the front down until it snaps.
