The 2001 Dodge Dakota window regulator is available in two versions: a cable-driven center post or a scissors-style regulator. When looking up the part from the dealer or auto parts store, there is not a specific regulator for a specific model, date of manufacturer or place of manufacturer. They just come in either model. This being the case, the door panel must be removed to determine which is appropriate. Either may fit, but it is better to stay with the original style.

Instructions

    1

Remove the door panel. Remove the two Phillips screws in the armrest and the one in the plastic cover in front of the door handle. Insert the common screwdriver between the door panel and the door, and pry out all the trim fasteners securing the door panel to the door on both sides and bottom of the door panel.

    2

Lift the top door panel enough to unhook it from the top sill on the door. Hold the panel away from the door enough to access the back of the panel. Unplug the power window switch and lay the panel aside. Peel the moisture shield back to expose the window regulator.

    3

Unplug the power window motor electrical harness. Remove the two bolts securing the window to the top regulator channel using a socket. Don't let the window drop, but lift the window all the way up and tape it to keep it up.

    4

Remove the regulator. This procedure will work for either style with the only difference being the bolt location, which will be obvious for either style. Remove the nuts in the regulator itself using a socket. On the scissors style, remove the two bolts in the short channel attached to the door and the top and bottom nuts holding the upright channel. Remove the bolts securing the window motor to the door. Lift the regulator out of the door.

    5

Insert the new regulator and align the vertical shaft. Bring the upper and lower studs through the holes in the door, and install and tighten the nuts. Install the horizontal channel if one is present. Align the holes in the window motor with those in the door, and install the bolts and tighten them firmly.

    6

Remove the tape and carefully lower the window into the regulator upper channel. Insert the two window bolts and tighten them firmly. Press the moisture shield in place.

    7

Hold the door panel close to the door, and plug in the window switch electrical connector. Lift the panel over the top of the doorsill, bring the panel down and hook the panel over the top sill. Lower the panel. Align the trim fasteners with the holes in the door and press them in. Install the Phillips screws in the armrest and the one in the plastic cover in front of the door handle.
