The Ford F-150 began its production life in the 1975 model year as a fill-in between the F-100 and F-250. The 2005 F-150, just a year removed from a complete redesign, came in a wide array of body and mechanical configurations to allow buyers a wide selection to choose from . All trim levels of the F-150 , except the Lariat, came standard in a two-door configuration. Replacing the window regulator in the standard cab configuration, whether it is power or manual, is a straightforward process.
Instructions
Removal
- 1
Pry the speaker grille from the door panel using a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the four speaker-retaining screws using a Phillips screwdriver and pull the speaker from the panel just enough to access the wiring harness on its rear. Unplug the wiring harness and remove the speaker.
2Pull the speaker water shield, the plastic panel below where the speaker was mounted, from its two plastic standoffs. Grab each of the speaker water shields standoffs with needle-nose pliers and pull each one outward firmly to disconnect them from the door panel.
3Pry the circular end of the window crank cover upward to separate the cover from the window crank, if equipped with manual windows, exposing its retaining screw. Remove the retaining screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the window crank and its spacer from the door regulator shaft.
4Pry upward on the outer edge of the power window, power door lock and power window switch bezel, if equipped with power windows, with a flat-head screwdriver to disengage the retaining clips. Lift the bezel and switch upward until you can access the wiring harnesses on the underside. Unplug the wiring harnesses from their switches and remove the bezel with the switches still attached.
5Remove the bolt you exposed when removing the power window, power door lock and power window switch bezel, if applicable, and the two bolts on the bottom of the panel using a ratchet and socket.
6Pry the screw cover from the door handle -- the rectangular panel on the inner door handle -- using a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the two screws securing the door handle using a Phillips screwdriver and remove the door handle from its stalk.
7Lift upward on the door panel to free its retaining tabs from the slots in the door frame. Remove the door panel from the door frame.
8Pull the water shield, the plastic cover, from the door frame.
9Lift the window to its full-up position and secure it in this position with duct tape.
10Find the two plastic glass clamps on the top of the regulator and loosen the bolt on each clamp with a ratchet and socket.
11Unplug the wiring harness from the window motor, if equipped with power windows.
12Remove the regulator-to-door frame bolts using a ratchet and socket and pull the regulator and motor, if applicable, from the door frame via an access hole in the door frame.
Installation
- 13
Guide the new regulator and motor, if applicable, into the door frame, via an access hole. If equipped with manual windows, guide the regulator shaft through its hole in the door frame. Align the regulators bolt holes with those in the door frame and hand-tighten the bolt. Torque the bolts to 8 foot-pounds using a torque wrench and socket.
14Plug the wiring harness into the receptacle on the new power window motor, if equipped.
15Remove the strips of tape securing the window and guide the window into the plastic glass clamps on the new regulator. Tighten the bolts in the plastic guide clamp bolts to 80 inch-pounds using an inch-pound torque wrench and socket.
16Reinstall the water shield onto the door frame and press it firmly onto the frame to secure it in place.
17Position the door panel so its retaining tabs align with the slots in the door frame, and guide the wiring harnesses through their holes in the door panel. Press the door panel downward to engage the locking tabs into the slots.
18Guide the inner door handle into place onto its stalk. Tighten the door handle screws with a Phillips screwdriver and press the screw cover back onto the door handle.
19Tighten the three door panel bolts, one inside the power window, power lock and power mirror switch bezel, if applicable, and two on the bottom of the door panel using a ratchet and socket.
20Plug the wiring harnesses into their receptacles on the power window, power lock and power mirror switches. Align the retaining clips on the underside of the power window, power lock and power mirror switch bezel with their slots in the door panel. Press the bezel downward to lock it into place.
21Guide the spacer and the manual window crank onto the regulator shaft, if applicable, and tighten its retaining screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Realign the window crank cover with the window crank and press the cover onto the crank until it clicks into place.
22Press the two speaker standoffs into their holes in the door panel and set the speaker water shield onto the standoffs and in the speakers cavity in the door panel.
23Plug the speakers wiring harness into the receptacle on the rear of the speaker, then set the speaker into its cavity, lining up its screw holes with those in the door panel. Tighten the four speaker-retaining screws with a Phillips screwdriver.
24Line up the retaining clips on the rear of the speaker grille with their slots in the door panel. Press the speaker grille onto the door panel until the retaining clips snap into place.
