Ford Motor Company offered three full-size SUVs in 2000: the Explorer, Expedition and Excursion. The Expedition shared a chassis and other features with the similar-sized Ford F150. On the ceiling, between the two front seats was the overhead console, which contained small storage compartments good for stowing sun glasses or a garage door opener, as well as a display field for the compass and outside temperature indicator. Since the display and console are part of the same assembly, you must replace the console in order to change the temperature indicator.
Instructions
- 1
Pry the rear of the overhead console off the ceiling, using the trim tool. Grab the console sides and pull down to free it from the ceiling mounts. Do not pull too far, or you can damage the wiring harness leading to the display.
2Unplug the wiring harness from the display component. Unplug the wiring connector from the rear air controls, if so equipped. Set the old console aside.
3Lift the new overhead console into place. Plug the wiring connector into the display component on the new console. Plug the wiring connector into the rear environment controls, if so equipped.
4Hold the console up to the mounting bracket. Make sure the wiring harness isn't between the edges of the console and the ceiling. Push upward firmly on the sides of the console to lock it into place.
