The turn signal lights for your 2006 Volkswagen Beetle are important safety components designed to alert oncoming and rear-approaching traffic of your intention to change lanes or turn. Replacing a defective turn signal bulb as soon as possible will help you avoid tickets and possible accidents.
Instructions
Front Turn Signal Bulbs

Examine the front bumper area and locate the two rectangular-shaped amber-colored marker lamps.
2Lay on your back and examine the underside of the front bumper; locate the rear side of the offending marker lamp. Use a flashlight to locate the small spring clip attached to the inner rear side of the marker housing.
3Depress the spring clip and push the marker lamp out of the bumper. Sit up in front of the bumper and examine the rear side of the marker light assembly.
4Hold the marker housing and twist the 90-degree bulb connector one quarter turn in either direction. Pull the connector from the housing to reveal the turn signal bulb.
5Pull the defective bulb from the connector.
6Hold the new bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and insert it into the connector. Insert the connector into the marker housing. Turn the connector one quarter turn to lock the connector in place.
7Place the hooked end of the marker light assembly into the outer side of the mounting area on the bumper and press the opposing spring-locked end of the assembly in place to complete the installation.
Rear Turn Signal Bulbs

Open the rear deck lid of the vehicle.
9Remove the small circular plastic cover, located directly behind the appropriate taillight assembly, using a non-marring pry tool.
10Unscrew and remove the star-shaped hand nut, located inside the access hole.
11Cover the Beetle's body on the innermost edge of the taillight lens with painter's masking tape to protect it. Pry the top or inside-facing edges of the rear taillight assembly, on the exterior side of the vehicle, using a non-marring pry tool. Be careful not to let the taillight assembly fall against the painted surfaces of the vehicle during the removal.
12Grasp the lower bulb connector, located behind the clear lens area, and twist the connector one quarter turn; pull the connector from the taillight housing to expose the turn signal bulb.
13Pull the turn signal bulb from the connector.
14Hold the replacement bulb with a clean, lint-free cloth and insert it into the connector; insert the connector into the taillight housing. Twist the connector one quarter turn to lock it in place.
15Line up the upper outside tab of the taillight housing with the notch in the mounting hole. Push the taillight in place, making sure the rear threaded stud slides through to the access hole in the trunk.
16Replace the star-shaped hand nut.
17Replace the access hole cover to finish the replacement procedure.Remove the painter's masking tape.
